Forest Floor Kinglake

"Forest Floor Kinglake"
Best in Show Kinglake Art Show 2017
Best Landscape Kinglake Art Show 2017

In preparation for the Kinglake Art Show I took a trip to Kinglake, as I made the decision to paint a local scene for that exhibition.  It was a beautiful sunny, warm day and I ventured to the National Park.  When I stumbled across this scene I knew I had to paint it as I could see it as a finished painting and I could not wait to get started.  The silvery forest floor contrasted beautifully with the billowy golden native foliage.  Saplings swayed in the breeze, the light catching their silver leaves making them look like glitter against the dark bark on the background trees.  I am looking forward to painting it again in a landscape format.

Harmony and Happiness

During a recent trip to Albuquerque, New Mexico I visited the Botanical Gardens.  For the first time in my life I had a opportunity to see koi fish that were in a pond in the Japanese Garden.  They were amazing, feeding frantically right on the surface of the water.  I was standing above them and I had the best view of them during their feeding frenzy, which lasted quite a long time.   I have composed this painting from many of the photos I took on that day.  I wanted this painting to be bright and full of energy and movement.  The viewer should move around the composition and return to the focal point where the water breaks.
